Kota Doria, known for its signature square-check pattern called khat is one of India's most distinctive handloom weaves, originating from Kaithoon near Kota in Rajasthan. What makes an authentic Kota Doria special is the meticulous handloom technique that creates these tiny translucent squares. Each khat is formed during weaving itself, a skill passed down through generations of weavers. The fabric is light weight, airy, and elegant, making it ideal for India's climate. To protect this centuries-old handloom tradition, Kota Doria received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, and every authentic handwoven piece from Kaithoon carries the GI mark woven into a corner, distinguishing it from powerloom imitations.
